The Documentary.

This documentary focuses on the uncertainties and inhumane acts of police brutality faced by the predominantly Khoisan/Rastafarian community of Hangberg in Hout Bay, Cape Town, South Africa.

Hout Bay is a high-class suburb in Cape Town, situated on a valley on the Atlantic Seaboard of the Cape Peninsula. A fishing community is situated on the mountain slopes between the harbour and the sentinel mountain peak. Crowded with blocks of flats and “illegally” built shacks, it is the only informal settlement in the region with picturesque views of the harbour. â€One could call it a poor man's paradise.

The community have faced multiple forceful housing evictions and have endured a forever lasting hostility of police brutality. The City of Cape Town is trying to evict this community, to relocate them to the notorious Cape Flats - a gang and drug filled area that was dedicated to people of colour during the Apartheid regime. The community has been fighting back and claiming their right to the land the indigenous people of Cape Town. Through this documentary, local musician @MrGriep immerses us into their daily experiences.
